___Whether the eggs had been waiting here for years to hatch or were recently blown in, ostracods have had a prolific hatch, possibly after thunderstorms on September 30 – October 2 or in early September.

___The ostracods are still here with the water boatmen while the pond continues to provide water to cows and horses.

___The pond has iced over but there is a cluster of ostracods at the southern edge of the pond. At least some of those on the pond bottom are swimming about but those exposed on the mud or floating next to the ice may be dead.
